Wine Coolers vs. Beer – What’s the Difference?

Wine Coolers

You’ve probably heard of wine coolers, but maybe you’re not sure what they are. One great example we could give you is Smirnoff – that tasty beer that comes in multiple flavors, including the favorite, Smirnoff Black. Of course it might taste good but half the time you wouldn’t want to be male and caught drinking it at a party.

In any case, you probably want to know the difference and how it affects what you’re drinking. The one thing you do know, is that having a beer probably sounds a bit heavier than having a wine cooler, but is that even true.

The Truth about Coolers

Okay so let’s assume that you’re trying to take on a wine cooler simply to avoid the alcoholic effects of straight beer. Having a Smirnoff probably sounds a lot better than chugging a Budweiser, and you would be right in assuming that it has lower alcohol content. There are a few downsides to this however! Wine coolers have less than 10% alcohol but they do have higher sugar, which tends to be a problem.

That being said, if you’re trying to watch your weight or your health in general, then drinking wine coolers probably isn’t the way to go about it. Higher sugar means heighted blood sugar, it means weight gain, and it can even mean headaches. In other words, don’t pound 30 wine coolers and think you’re drinking responsibly. Sure it’ll take a while to get you drunk but your waistline will feel the effects of it in the meantime.

Just Because it’s a Wine Cooler…

One last point we want to bring up is that many people will still drink a ton of wine coolers simply because it is of lower alcohol content. You need to make sure you’re following all of the same safety rules with wine coolers that you would with standard beer because while it might have a lower content, it still adds up.

These points aside, we’d like to make it clear that we’re not knocking wine coolers in any way! There are a ton of great ones out there for you to try, some of which are really tasty! Wine coolers incorporate flavors that other alcoholic beverages simply couldn’t get away with, and that gives you more opportunities than you realize. That being said, now would be a great time to start looking into all of the different options which are right on the store shelf. You’re going to discover all new flavors and eventually you might just develop a new addiction.
